While running disk clean-up is it safe to delete Temporary files & compressed old files ?

Kindly note, I'm using windows XP & I have already deleted temporary internet files & now the remaining are temporary files: 24,514 bytes & compressed old files: 1,016,787 bytes. Is it save to delete them ? Thanks

The temp files found by disk clean up -- yes.

The compressed files you may not want to delete. Compressing a file stores it in a format that uses less hard drive space, but is slower for the computer to open and use. The computer takes files that have not been used in a long time and moves them in the compressed files. It does NOT know whether they are something you want or not. It just knows you have not looked at them in a while. So it IS SAFE to let disk cleanup compress files, but it may not be wise to delete the compressed files.

Go ahead. Ther's no problem at all. Unless you are deleting them during a download or an install when it might screw up the action. Though the files are write protected you have a very small chance of deleting them. Temp files can be deleted without having to worry at all. Go ahead delete those 24514 bytes too :) Same with the compress old files too.

It is safe to delete temporary Internet file and temporary files.
by the way you should manually delete files from your temporary folder after few days and specially after some big installations.
But deletion of old compressed files is something you should think twice before doing coz in this case you may end up deleting some of your old important data.

Disk cleanup cleans the temporary files for you. Its best to do desk cleanup first and then use the separate disk compression first anyway. So youre doing the right step.

To make your computer the most efficient, its best to:

1) Do disk scan (repairs system files)
2) Do disk cleanup
3) Disk compression
4) Disk defragment

Do those in order for the most efficient use.

it is normally always safe to delete that contents of your temp folders. the compressed old files should be safe to delete also.

Then run DEFRAG.

Yes you can safely delete them both.

You might also consider emptying your recycle bin and then defragging your drive to complete your clean up.

I always do that and it never created any problem for me. I have been doing it from last 5 years.

i do it regularly and haven't had probs. if concerned, view files first, then delete if you want
