how to i go about doing this? Where do i go to get certified? I didn't go to school for education...I only have a Diploma in BA. Can someone tell me how I need to go about doing this. Also, what is the approximate pay per day? I know it's different in every state, but I just want to know an approximate.

Anyone that can give me any information would be helpful. Thanks!

If you have a BA degree, you might be able to go back to school for a post baccalaureate, meaning just focusing on what you want to teach and not take other meaningless classes. It might take a few years, but you will probably need a certificate to teach. Some states(I know of NC) you can enter their lateral entry program where you don't need a teaching certificate as long as you have a certain number of college credits. That depends on the state your in though and how badly they need teachers. Pay varies widely. I work in about 7 different districts where it ranges from $65 per day to $90. If your in a certain district for a certain number of days per year, you can get paid even more(mainly long term subbing). Good luck!

I'm in Arizona and the rules here are you have to have a bachelor's degree. You go through the Department of Education to get a sub certificate. Then you sign up with different school districts. You also have to get a fingerprint card and get a background check. The pay depends upon school districts. Also, if you sub a certain number of days within a district the pay can go up. Right now regular pay is $80 per day, and extended pay is $110 in the district where I work. People can sub every day if they want to -- everyone needs them.

In order to be a sub where in the district I worked, I had to have at least 60 credits (associates or two years of full time work). When I was not certified I had to sign a blanket certificate at the main office.

As for pay, when I started, I got $55 per day. Then we got a raise to $60 per day. When I got certified, I got $65 per day. I have seen the sub pay in other districts go as low as $45 per day to as high as $110 per day. You can call your local school district's administration department/superintendent's office to find out how much they pay in Indiana.

Good luck to you. Substitute teaching is a hard but rewarding job.

Pay can be from $65-$100 a day. You can go to Central Office (get an application) and then to the school where you want to sub (make an appt. with the principal). The hiring staff will want to know that you worked with kids before or took some education classes. Tell them that you are interested in subbing and they will most likely hook you up. Most places really need subs so tell them exactly what you want to do and they will probably accomodate you.

I am currently a sub. in Florida after I quite teaching on a regular basis. You are right when you say the pay depends on the state, actually it can depend on the county. Your qualifications depend on the ares also..your best bet is to call your local school principal, he/she can give you the information, or lead you to the right place to obtain the information that you need.

Go to the board of Education in your area. Most states are making you have college to do this which is stupid.. You are really baby sitting NOT teaching. Pay ranges form $50 to $ 75 a day in my area . You will also be finger printed and a background ck will be done.

Pay is relitive, as it's defined by distirct and how often you work. In lake County, IN. just ask the school boards. You are more then quilfied for Subbing.
