Modern man belongs to the genus Homo, which is a subgroup in the family of hominids. What evolved into Homo was likely the genus Australopithecus (once called "man-ape"), which includes the famed 3.2 million-year-old "Lucy" fossil found three decades ago.

The whole human family tree, being able to connect the branches is the life work of anthropoligists and other scientists. The great apes are man's closest cousins, they developed off the main family of hominids.

If not, we are so closely matched that we could be cousins. This is a puzzling question even to scientists because it begs another question....why did WE evolve and not other monkeys. So, bottom line is that although we are primates, we must have been a different species from the beginning. One that was able to adapt to its surroundings and change physically as a result.

There are a few other primate groups that are now extinct, who are even of a grater matche to us than other pirmates today e.g. gigantophitecus (a/k/a King Kong), was a large primate that walked wholly upright and had a higher physical resemblance to us....5 fingers and such...

Humans and modern monkeys share a common ancestor... therefore at one point the two species branched off from one another, probably about 3-5 million years ago.
Though this should just be considered a highly proven theory, not fact.

Darwin suggested that humans and monkeys evolved from a common ancestor.

God sure did create the earth, but we DID evolve from monkeys. We share over 90% of our DNA with chimpanzees!

Do not ever believe in this stupid thing. If you do except this than you also must except the statement that your house will eventually evolve in to a tank or something similar. This may work well for kids but not for you.

No we did not evolve from monkeys.
Scientists would LOVE you to believe that because it was a scientist's idea.

No. The differences are quite obvious SCIENTIFICALLY. People believe in evolution because they do not want to differ. The evidence is so sketchy it requires more faith to believe in than creation!

Yes, we, homo sapiens, are related to monkeys. They are distant cousins.

My ancestor's name is Bongo.
