Laws regaurding the United States Flag can be found at a few websites, but motre importantly can be read from tha US Constition. But as I understand the law, Citizens have the right to express themselves in any way they wish, so long as it does not cause physicall or property damage to another.
By Military and Civilian law, the Flag shall be burnt if it comes in contact with the ground.
But then during the Vietnam Era certain laws were passed/enacted that have relevance to this question, see link.

Burning is the preferred way of disposing of an old and worn out flag.
Burning a flag as a form of protest does not make sense to me. It only shows what a great country we have that gives us the freedom to do this kind of stupid stuff.

the flag-burning stunt is a staple of the 'death to america' crowd, and I think they deserve not only a prohibition, but a swift kick in the *** and a one-way ticket to Nocashistan so they can see how the 'other half' lives. Nothing like spending time in some godforsaken 3rd world country to make you appreciate america...

I assume you mean disrespectfully burning the flag.
The flag is a sacred symbol of freedom. Burning the flag is destroying the freedom they have. So essentially, they are burning their rights along with it.
In other words, without the freedom that comes with the flag to protect them, how do they have the right to burn it?

questions you can pose as to why the US should forbid burning the flag?
none.
so there.
burning the flag is a citizen's right to protest and expression, it is a valued act of free speech that should forever be protected in the united states.

I fully support jailing people who burn the american flag. Quite frankly, those people deserve to be beaten senseless by an enraged mob, but jail time is much more civilized and american.
Hate speech/criminal speech is not part of freedom of speech.

because to burn or deface a american symbol shows anit american sentiment and it wrong. asking that is like asking why it would be illegal to take a wreaking ball to the statue of liberty, or the lincoln monument.
