Boot into Windows XP, right click on My Computer, go to Manage then go to Disk Management. In there select the partition that has Windows 98 installed on it, right click it and select format (make sure you have moved any files you wish to keep onto the Windows XP side). Windows 98 will be gone but you will still have two seperate partitions (and I assume we are talking about two partitions as opposed to two physical drives). Merging the partitions will either require you to purchase Partition Magic, http://www.powerquest.com/home_homeoffice/products/system_performance/pm80/index.html or you will have to format the hard drive using your Windows XP CDs.

Both operating systems are bootable. It doesn't matter which one remains on the drive. Since you have two right now, you are given a choice. Once you have removed Windows 98, Windows XP should boot automatically without you having to make a choice.

Partition magik and disk director are good softwares, but the second one is cheaper about 20$, and has more available options. so i prefer disk director.

i don't know but i think the system will not start if you format it using the winXP since your bootable files will be there on win98 disk since it was the first to be installed.
