Absolutely not. Music is the most wonderful thing in life. Liking different kinds is a good thing. I have a very wide eclectic taste in music. Rock, Oldies, Jazz, Blues, 80's, Heavy Metal, some hip hop, and even some country too.

I have the same problem. I pretty much listen to Kpop and Jrock all the time and everyone gets annoyed and me calling me a wannabe and all that crap. My family thinks I'm a freak but seriously, people need to expand their music. Music is music so everyone can enjoy it and in a way understand it, well you don't need to understand music to like it. Also I agree, people forget that you do listen to 'normal' music as well. For me it's not that I want to be Asian and it's not my fault I enjoy it. But yes I understand where you're coming from - I suppose you can just ignore those who confront you of being different, where's the fun in being the same?

no. liking rock music and not listening to rap are two different things. I know many people that are African American and like rock music but don't listen to rap or hip hop. Is totally ok to like rock as long as you enjoy it. You are not weird-just cool-ER lol.
Rock on!

Not at all! I am Latina but raise in America, so most of all the music I listen to are American. I know exactly how you feel because a lot of my friends listen to Spanish music but I do not listen to it as much as them. I tend to listen to bands like Pearl Jam or Journey or 80's music. I think that is someone acts differently towards you only because of your taste of music then maybe you shouldn't consider them a friend because they are ignorant.

No you aren't wrong for that. I am African American too and I like different types of music. Lots of people do, but for some reason they feel like they should be ashamed to like rock because it is supposedly "white people music."

I am also an african american who likes all types of music...from hip hop to classical. I used to try and hide my musical taste but then I realized that it's a lot easier to just be myself and if someone doesn't like me or thinks i'm weird just because of something like music, that's their problem.

You think every gay white guy in Key West likes Jimmy Buffet?
Music lovers can distinguish excellence in many genres. You don't have to be a fan of "elevator music" to know that Tony Bennett is better than Tony Orlando. People who choose their music according to genre probably do so because they lack the "musical intelligence" to base their choices on merit. A music lover likes everything that's good, regardless of genre.

No...I am there with you. My mom laughs at me for listening to A. Simpson and many others. I could care less about what people think of my personal preferences. You're the same way. Be happy about it. I know that my open attitude to different things (more than just music) makes me a better, more well-rounded person. : )

No. I'm a white girl and I listen to a lot of African and other cultural music with lyrics that I don't understand. It's the vibe that you connect with that moves you...go with it, and no need for apologies. You're standing in your truth, after all. Isn't that what matters the most?

Trust yourself and your own judgment. There's nothing weird about that. One of the great American philosophers, Henry David Thoreau, said, "If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music he hears, however measured or far away." In other words, don't let someone else dictate to you how you must think.
Again... you're not weird. It's great to know that we still have young people who reject violence as art.
