Leaflets through doors, put an advert in the local paper, posters in shop windows and on the notice board in supermarkets, ad in local phone directory and yellow pages, radio ad on local radio. Do a good job and your clients will be more likely to tell friends, family and neighbours about you. Good luck.

Now you said "best / cheapest" - these are NOT the same.
And that's important if you want to make good money. You should sell at a higher price, and provide better service and quality. How you do that, I don't know, but you need to figure it out.
====================
How to sell cheapest:
Free samples. Go to a nice high-end retail center (not a mall) with your equipment all ready, dress nice but ready to work, walk in, ask for the manager, hand over a card, say "I'd like to clean your windows for free - do you already have a service? (they will say yes). Say "ok, if I do a great job for you, would you be willing to give me your business?" If they say yes, say "great - besides sparkling clean windows, guaranteed, what else would you need from me?"
From that point, you're negotiating.
If they say "no, can't change / won't change" then say "do you know of anyone who might be willing to give me a shot? "
etc.
It's basic door to door selling.

Hello, I started out by making up letters and fliers and mailed or delivered them to local business'. Get your vehicle lettered with your company name and number...that is my primary marketing tool. The phonebook is also VERY important. WORD of MOUTH is the most important. Get as much local business as you can. Even if you have to do it cheaper than the competition to start off with. The more customers you have that are impressed with your work (and your polite and professional manner) the more others are going to hear about you! Kiss a little *** too, that never hurt me! Enjoy the hard but fullfilling work!!

A few ideas:
1) Flyers & Business Cards - Who are your customers & where do they shop (e.g. grocery, home improvement stores, etc)? Post flyers where your customers frequent.
2) Advertise Locally -- Newspapers, Craigslist, Yahoo! Local
3) Word of Mouth -- Offer a great service & people will talk.
4) Mailers -- Send out coupons, specials, etc.
Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!

Local fliers are good.But years ago I went around to retirement communities where they usually have posting boards by the pools and clubhouses.Once one neighbor sees you out there and your doing a good job you'll have more work than you can handle.Word of mouth is a a powerful advertisement.
