While there are professional pest catchers, this is what we do around the barn. We have a humane cage (allows entry, but must be released by a human) bait it with Little Debbie's oatmeal marshmallow cookie sandwich and check the next morning. When we release into the wild, we go to a park many miles away as racoons can have a 5 to 15 mile radius of their "area." Please wear thick leather gloves to handle a cage with a catch. If you fear rabies, take it to your nearest agricultural center immediately! (or you can call animal control to come) Actually, that's a better idea. call animal control and don't handle it at all. If you have small dogs, you might catch one of them instead, but if you keep your dogs in at night, racoons are nocturnal, and you'll catch it soon enough.

Either have someone kill the racoon or keep your cats inside until you are sure it is gone. Also don't keep any food outside b/c he might be staying there b/c there is food and he is eating it

make sure you never leave any garbage outside. Racoons are scavengers and eat pretty much anything left laying around. Spread mothballs around. Most animals hate those things, you can also try spraying a predatory animals urine around where you know the coon to be, ie. fox, bear, coyote. Surprisingly they sell bottles of this stuff in hunting sections at walmart and hunting stores.

Borrow or buy a humane trap. Put it under the house near where he goes in/out, and check it daily.
Your local laws will dictate where you can release it. You can call a wildlife rehabber for this information and on tips on how to catch & release.

Call your local game commision. They will bring you out a live trap and relocate it. I would have my cats vaccinated if you haven't already. Rabies, distemper etc...

remove the food source he is coming for...prob cat food. I have them too, but the less I leave dog food outside, the less they come.
