NO it doesn't. It is very safe for the baby. It uses sound waves. They bounce on different objects and send the wave back to the device. It picks up these returned waves and shows what they bounced on--if it is bone, cartilage, muscle, etc..
I think it is like whales making noises underwater to see if there is anything around them. Or yelling in a cavern and hearing the echo come back to you. Same principle, same sound waves. Just with an ultrasound they develop those waves into a picture you can see.

So many people get them anymore. I never had one or the doptone either. They taught us in prenatal classes that ultrasound is known to cause deafness in animals. The long-term side effects are unknown. Years ago doctors used to X-ray pregnant women. Now they know that can cause leukemia. I did not want to take any chances with my baby.

no and it is very wonderful.
You get to see the child and the doctors will be able to tell the sex, baby development, fingers and toes.
And you can ask the ultrasound tech. to print out pictures for you.
I gave birth to 3 preemies and without the ultrasound they wouldnt have know what the baby needed or didnt need.

I DOES use electricity, but in no way does it harm the child. It's like flying in an airplane: it's safer then crossing the street.
