Edinburgh is not the best city for shopping. Princes Street and the streets around are ok and Harvey Nic's has some designer shops near.

If you are serious about shopping get on the train to Glasgow. There is one every 15 min and it takes less than an hour. http://www.firstgroup.com/scotrail/index.php

It is the only choice for a serious Shopaholic. Visit the shopping section of http://www.seeglasgow.com/

Fodor's guides has an Edinburgh guide book with a map inside that has a selection of recommended shops on it.
