I twisted my knee trail running at the end of April, to me it felt like a tear or sprain along the outside of my knee. The doctor told me to take it easy, apply ice then heat for 15 minutes each 3-5 times a day and my knee ahould get better within a couple of weeks.
It is nearly 2 months since my injury and I am still limited to short light walks on flat surfaces. I cannot use my knee to climb or descend stairs. I have been unable to go back to work because it requires me to be able to walk, bend, twist, use stairs all day.
I went to a second doctor who advised me to start doing light leg exercises with no more than ankle weights. But I found this only worsened the condition and i even stopped walking for a week and a half.
I don't understand why they can't immobilize my knee for 1-2 months so that it has the chance to heal and then I could work on strenghtening myself (there is no physiotherapist in the area).
I am also worried that my knee will not heal for a long time.

You have to be able to bend your knee-that is why it cannot be "immobilized". As far as the Dr. who told you to use weights-on a knee that is already injured-well it didn't even sound like a good idea when he recommended it! Mine did that. I thought he was wrong and sure enough-he was. Weight training for an injury is wrong. Lite leg exercises-yes, you have to keep moving the part.

If they immobilize your knee the muscles will stiffen hurting worse when you do try to move it. (I dislocated one of mine & broke the other years ago in a car accident) The only person that made mine feel better was a specialist, try to get a referral and see one. Good Luck :-)

i know how u feel, during cheerleading i tore a muscle in my leg and sprained my hip after falling out of a difficult build (i really didnt fall someone dropped me) but anyways i couldnt cheer for about 2 weeks and after that i still felt sharp pains in my hip everytime i tried to do a toetouch. but after about 3 months it finally healed but i still cant jump as high as i used to. so just be patient and im sure your knee will heel right up. make sure not to put alot of pressure on it!
