Presently working in NY commuting 4 hours a day from CT, I'm burnt out but can't take a pay cut any suggestions? I have a 9 year old and babysitting problems, sometimes I'll sneak my daughter to work but this is stressful.

Would it be possible to work for a Temp Agency? Usually Administrative Assistants are very much in demand and you chose your own hours.

The only draw-back with this is that you will not have insurance benefits. While you can get benefits from the Temp Agency, you will have to work roughly six (6) months before you qualify.

Another option, believe it or not, is to work for a licensed daycare center. In Connecticut (as I live there too), you need to have taken specific child-rearing classes and gotten certified. I have a Friend who works four (4) hours a day and makes $20 an hour. The provider she works for even paid for her schooling so she could be properly trained and certified. My Friend could work all day, but it's her choice not to (because of her own family obligations).

Good Luck in your search. I applaud you for going to New York now as it is. It's very stressful taking the train back and forth - and that's on a good day weather wise - forget about when it snows or there is a train delay on Metro-North.

Have a lovely rest of the day.

I am a mother of an 8 yr. old daughter and expecting another in August. I work from home, which for us is the perfect thing. I get to include my daughter all the time and she loves it. You must be very careful when looking at this kind of work though. There are many fly-by-night companies just wanting you to sign up or buy products. And this would be something that at least for a few months you would have to do in your spare time to get an income coming in, I would not suggest quiting your current job until the pay is about the same. If you find a company with a good compensation plan, free training, and great people like this one, you need to get started and get free. Our lifestyle is great and I know my children will never have to wonder where their parents are or why they have to be away form us so much. If you would like more info on what I do just email me. kehrlyfamily@yahoo.com

Keep your day job for now and take a Real Estate Course. Get your license and start selling. The hours are flexible because you set them. and commissions are good. You can even take your daughter on showings if you have to. I did before. You can even get your 9 year old to help you with small jobs so she can join you someday and know the ropes. The classes are often taught at colleges so you can apply for a grant. But some Real estate offices teach them and mine only lasted a couple weeks. Good Luck

I felt the same way as you, then I found a home-based business that by following a system and working consistently 8-15 hours per week without giving up what I currently doing, will allow me to quit my job and stay home with my daughters by the end of this year.

I was so fortunate to have an aquaintance introduce this business to me.

Would you like more information? Email me.

If you have some connections in the real estate business. Being a mortgage broker can pay well and offer some flexibility. Not for everyone though. I left a Center Director position to originate mortgages for the family aspect and I am getting rich yet but making similar money with more family time. Good luck.

It might be a good Idea to find something a bit closer to your home and something similar to what you are doing now. Spend a little time researching the Internet for opportunities. There are even chances that you could possibly work from your house if you get into a job like recruitment!

have you considered that taking a little paycut wont effect you that much consiering the amount that you spend daily on transit (4 hours omg!!)

but ... you could either relocate to somewhere in NY or possibly go back to school.... a little sacrifice now will pay off in the long run =]
