I have always wondered why people have their disputes settled on one of those court televison programs and tell all of their personal business. Do these people get substantially compensated for their participation? If I was getting sued I certainly would not want the whole world to know it.

A combined appearance fee is offered to the litigants. The amount is dependant on the dollar values named in their suits. Any amounts awarded by the judge when the dispute is settled is paid out from this apearance fee to the litigant who prevails, and the remainder of the appearance fee is divided evenly amongst the plaintiff and the defendant.

I wish I knew. The People's Court does but I have never been able to read the whole disclaimer at the end of the show. (Nor wanted to tape it so I could freeze it and then read it.) I have gone to their websites and could find no information. I live close to Chicago and I called Judge Mathias about a case my friend wanted to bring but they said they did not compensate. However, the way she said it suggested that there was some kind of deal. Good question. I hope someone can answer.

They get food and an section to stay for the days they're there and then a number of the money the teach will pay and then they pay something else. that is binding and could be held adverse to them. So although the judgment is that is binding through regulation and they signal an contract, no remember what they ought to pay if there are any monies to pay.

They usually get a few hundred bucks, but whatever they're ordered to pay is covered by the court/tv show.
