When I first started drive i was really afraid too....one of the things that helped me out was turning on the radio pick a good station where they play your favorite songs or bring a cd......and chewing gum....so when you get a little nervous you can chew it instead of your lip or your fingernails......also try to be a smart driver.......see my dad always told me that he isnt afraid of me driving but of the other people around me.....try to be an aggresive driver when the time calls for it.......but most of all try to remain calm driving is easy just make sure you keep your eyes open and that you are paying attention to your surroundings.

Watch everyone else on the road, observe your review mirrors as much as possible to get an idea on your surroundings should a situation arise. Be courteous to others regardless if they are towards you. Don't speed and always anticipate someone to make a move regardless if they have seen you or not. Look ahead at least a block to anticipate any movements of other vehicles and potential situations.
Don't drink and drive and drive safe.
The best way to become confident is to drive in some rush hour traffic for a while and you will then have all the confidence in the world. The more you drive the better you will become.
Don't speede in the rain and ALWAY'S maintain a safe following distance fron the car in front of you..45mph=2 car lengths space 70 mph=at LEAST 3 car spaces between you and the car in front of you.
Should you follow these simple rules I garantee you will have a safe driving record.

PS: If you ever get into a car accident DO NOT ADMIT TO ANYTHING !!! let the court/insurance/cop determine that...you will incriminate yourself with whatever you say..even if it was not your fault.

Go the speed limit and watch out for what other drivers may do. Use yer blinker. Don't get yourself stuck in a 'wolfpack' which is a pack of drivers on a highway who won't pass or slow for the others to get around them, also don't pace another car. Either pass them or follow far behind. I hate it when people don't realize they do this..

practice. Who cares if people pass you. Drive safely, and defensively. Keep your music down and never get behind the whell when you are angry.

If you are nervous and your parents are talking loud at you while you are driving. Calmly (and respectfully) tell them that they are making you nervous and the first time you do anything dangerous, you will pull over and they can drive the rest of the way.

Drive as much as you can as often as you can. And do most of your driving in city traffic before you go out on the highway. Also resist the temptation to drive fast.

Don't worry if you aren't flying down the road like everyone else seems to yet, just go your own pace and don't feel pressured, because if people don't like driving behind you, they can pass you.

Deserted parking lots are great! I got my license last year and my boyfriend took me to the local college in the evenings (no classes). It was nice to be able to practice without other crazy drivers!

take it slow. look at the whole picture while driving--especially for the itty bitty kids who don't know any better-and the older ones who do. don't believe that stop signs with borders don't "count"--they do. Good luck. Practice makes perfect.

Yes! Please refrain from talking on your cell phone while driving, if you have one, a lot of accidents recently has been due to people not concentrating on the road, while on the phone.
