The main "problem" with any religion is that it enables you to shed responsibility. Once you have done that, you are free to do as you choose. remember the line, "when something good happens, its a miracle, when something bad happens, God moves in mysterious ways. All bases covered.
Once upon a time, back in Europe during the Medaeval Times (around 400BA, Before America) the "Church" began to keep social control by fear and resricted education. Only monks could read and anyone claiming God talked to them was denounced as a heratic and disposed of, yes I can see the arguement for bringing that back...LOL. The system though was fair, people were not just executed out of hand. One system, also used for witches, was to tie them up and throw them in the village pond. If they floated, they were guilty and burned. If they sank and drowned they were innocent. Sort of like voting Republican or Democrat, Labour or Tory in England, you're screwed either way.
Also called "Opium of the masses" religion had a base in goodness and humanity, unfortunately, it was seen as the powerful tool for control and personal gain and was wielded without mercy against the people it had sought to protect and save. Recommend you see the film "Luther".
If there is a God/supreme being, all I can say he must be a sad muppet if this World is how he gets his fun.
At best "Religion" was a series of simple stories, amplified and exaggerated by continual word of mouth, eventually written down and formalized. It helped explain some things that were beyond man's imagination and experience at that time. Flat Earth you will fall off....no it's round. Heaven is in the clouds...no been there now. Hell is below, burn for eternity....no nothing there either.
How many thousands of years will the faithful waiting for His return.
Who knows. but as a scapegoat and cash cow, God excels, probably not what he had in mind.

You know.... thats a pretty damn hillarious question. I don't think I could pack that much hypocracy into a small bundle if I tried. Think about it. You start with a question "Why do conservatives say the dumbest things.." and then continue on with a statement "Not one of them is willing to accept they might be wrong...." Have you every considered that YOU are wrong? Have you ever considered that maybe the democratic party might be wrong? Probably not, I'm betting you take them on "Faith" I'm a republican, and I don't think religion should play a large role in government, which is a big reason I'm not a democrat. Too many things you have to take on faith..... Honestly, your just a stitch.

Hey play! You are certainly correct in your assessment of Religion. Please don't confuse Faith with Religion, I can be religious going to the bar every night. I agree with you and my philosopy is that no religion (organized faith) is completely right and none is completely wrong. God does still talk to people's hearts IF they will listen and not act rashly. The basic principles are in all positive religions, Live with each other in peace and treat each other as you wish to be treated, take care of each other. Radicals who want to "Help God Out" are the problem. Keep searching Play and find the God that wants the best for you, he's quiet and happy, you'll know him when he talks to you. Good luck!

My God doesn't kill people...People kill people.
I do "pick" God...and I don't have a "religion". I do not shove anything down anyone's throat... but I try my best to do what God instructed me to do in His Word (Bible). And that is to tell others about Him. (those that do not know the truth.)
I see by the way you have stated your question and comments, that you are one of those that do not know God, therefore, do not know the truth. It is my responsibility as a Christian to tell you about God and His Son, Jesus Christ.
I do have FAITH. It is a gift from God. It is an inner peace that passes all understanding... so until you know the Savior...you cannot understand FAITH.
Until you know God, and have FAITH... you will continue to think of those that do as being stupid. We are not. But we do understand your ignorance, and want very much to help you.
Any "religion" that does not promote God, the Father (Creator of all), God, the Son (Savior for all), and God, the Holy Spirit (Comforter to all), is a religion that I do not believe is right... therefore, I will not consider that religion as possibly being right.
The God that I worship, does not test His children by asking them to die for Him. God wants us to LIVE for Him.
God gives us choices (Free Will) to follow Him or not. I choose to follow Him. We each make this choice... whether you want to or not. The choice is yours.
Not all Conservatives are Christian... and not everyone that says they are Christian, really are. There are many hypocrites that claim to know God... but have never met Him. You can spot most of them quickly because of the way they choose to live, their character, their integrity, etc.
Those that do the will of God are Christians. Christians will not criticize and call you names... they will pray for you and forgive you for the things you have chosen to say about them.
I will pray that you will seek God, and come to know Him as I have. The choice is yours.
God bless you.

I agree with you in some respects...for instance Bush says that he feels like he is fighting a mission for God against the Terrorists...but Hiltler felt the same thing...So who's right and who's wrong...and who are we to decide. I think that any man who kills in the name of God is wrong.

God does not really care if we kill each other, Time means nothing to him. We are all going to be killed by God anyway so whay should he care if it is now or later. Since he controls the wrold, he controls who dies and who kills, I blame GOD for everyhting bad abd credit him with everything good. He does not seem to know the difference anyway. Why should his followers?

It is easy to blame or use GOD for any stupid argument; the other person can not argue or reason with that person anymore.
Majority of the people accept the idea of pleasing the supreme being.

Well it is really simple.
When they do that crap to you, ask them about the Tsunami.
And if they tell you that is the devil, ask them if Satan is as powerful as God
And if they tell you God moves in mysterious ways, tell them to ask God to f'sk off for you.
Either one shuts them up.
BTW, I believe in God, and I don't believe in Satan, and if you asked me that Tidal wave question, I frankly would not have had a good answer for it either. And I would have shut up.
Oh, as to the last section of your question, we all die, it is all a matter of timing. If you know any immortals, let me know. I would like to learn their secrets.
