I have 3 gecko's and I can tell you as far as the shedding goes, each one is different. It all depends on how much they eat, and how they are growing, if they are still growing. As far as the dirty sock goes, I have never heard of that with a gecko, a dog, but not a gecko. If you want your gecko to get use to use carefully handle him for a little bit every day. Start by just putting your hand in the tank and see if he will climb on it on his own. After a while he will learn to trust you, just move slow and have some patience. Also, don't grab at his tail. I'm not sure if you know this but if you grab to tight on his tail and he gets scared he will release his tail. It is their defense mechanism when a predator is around and attacking, they release their tail, and while the predator eats the tail they get away. It does grow back, but it is never as nice as the first. Once your gecko gets use to you, you won't have to worry about that as much.

they shed about once a month normally. Some geckos eat their shed and you will never know they shed if you don't catch them doing it. Don"t put that sock in there! Not downing you but that is the stuipidest thing I have ever heard. Carefully handle or touch your gecko daily. Some species of geckos never do nor like being tamed.

agree with above except for the number of sheds a month, any animal that sheds typically sheds because it's growing, as a young gecko it will shed more, as it grows faster. it also depends on how much the animal is eating. There is no set number a gecko should shed a month to determine if it's healthy or not.

My Leopard Gecko sheds just about every 4 weeks. I never heard of the sock thing, Synge is not very friendly. You can aid in the shedding process by putting a damp paper towel in with your gecko he will lay on it & the shed is quicker.

shedding frequency strongly depends on what gecko and how old
i would not treat mine to my dirty socks. anyway geckos are as a rule not that dumb that they would not be able to tell you FROM YOUR SOCK so if u want to make friends with it, you would need to accustom it to your self and not your socks!
first wait till it feels at ease in the new terrarium if it a new pet, then feed it from hand and make it approach your friendly and good-bringing hand this way, not the other way around - grabbing it forcibly. tell us what kind of gecko u have or mean to have and please forget about decorating the terrarium with your smelly socks. geckoes crap is far enough

a gecko should shed once every one or two months. Don't put that in there, gecko's are very fragile and may be allergic to things you have stepped near (dirt, bugs, etc)
