I would go to the doctor for bad migraines. I have read that certain foods can trigger migraines too. Maybe keep a food journal and see if you get migraines after eating certain things.

I have been having migraines for 8 years, go to a nuerologist and have a CAT scan done to make sure there are no tumors or anything else that could be causing the migraines. More than likely, they will tell you that you JUST GET MIGRAINES. Which isn't much help, but ask them to put you on a Seratonin Reuptake Inhibitor medication to prevent the migraines. Effexor, Prozac and Celexa all have worked for me in varying degrees over the years. I had a doctor put me on Topomax a year ago and that realllly messed me up, made me horribly dizzy, uncoordinated, and I couldn't form a sentance or work for the life of me. I went off of it in 4 days. You may also want to try Naproxen (Aleve), you can buy it over the counter, and if you take the recommended dosage and it doesn't work, try doubling it. That's what I do and it normally kills the migraine within 20 minutes. The doctors will prescribe Naproxen for migraines in a higher dosage than what you can buy over the counter, but it is more expensive, so I just buy Aleve and double the dosage. I have not had luck with Imitrex or Maxalt or Zomig, they are supposed to be taken as soon as you feel a migraine coming on, but they always make me feel real dizzy and spacey. Good luck, Migraines are the worst!

Also, don't listen to the girl that recommended having Chocolate. Chocolate is one of the biggest trigger foods for migraines. So are cheese, caffiene and foods with MSG.

Definantly go to a dr. I use excedrin migrain when it first starts and then also have a script if i need it. But everyone is different in what helps. If OTC stuff is not helping you will need a script to get something stronger that will. Also sometimes migrains are side effects of other things and you really need to make sure ther is nothing else going on.

you may or may not be having migraines at all. you may be having tension headaches. which is what happened to me. go to the doctor, see what he says, but first, where does it hurt? just your head? or your neck and shoulders? maybe your back? if any of this sounds familiar then theyre probably tension headaches...call your doctor. see what he has to say...

imitrex did not work for me, the pain was so bad, and on top of that if youre not covered by the military insurance, imitrex runs about 25 dollars a pill. no joke. you may be able to get a generic version for cheaper, but i dont know...see if you cant get him to give you anaprox. its the best!!

good luck!! hope you feel better!

Depends on what's triggering your migraines. Have a couple pieces of chocolate each day (perferably dark), try to stay as stress free as possible... if that doesn't work, then your doctor can prescribe you something. There are a couple of good medications out here to help with it.

Yes!....I use to have them, but I don't anymore store bought medicine really does not work, you need to see a Doctor who can prescribe you a higher dose of pain killers, also try to avoid light, any loud noises, and breathe in and hold it for a few seconds and then release slowly about 5 times, it helped me.

Yes I heard a radio dj talking about how he had really bad headaches and people called in giving really scary stories about their migrains, and what they had to deal with, but you can get some good meds to deal with them

A doctor could prescribe Imitrex or Maxalt, if you pay them a visit and if the migraines are that severe.

you should go to see a doctor to make sure it is a true migraine and not something more or less serious. especially get checked out if you are having them frequently or for long durations.

I get headaches regularly and I take a cocktail of 3 aspirins and 2 tylenol...don't worry - it's not harmful to take that much. Works like a charm!!
