I am thinking of starting to sell Mary Kay and I want to know everyone's honest opinions of the skin care and make-up line. I enjoy the artistry of cosmetics. I am a teacher, but don't make much money. Is Mary Kay really a realistic venue for boosting my income?

I'm 22 years old and when I first heard of marykay I also thought it was for old ladies, but when I tried it for myself I was surprised how well the skin care products worked in the first application. The makeup is natural looking, and everyone always ask me where I get my makeup. As a matter of fact most people think I'm 16 or 17 years old. Makeup is supposed to look natural, not "out there" with crazy neon colors. After my first facial party I decided I wanted to sell marykay. I go to school, take care of my daughter and niece, and I am able to make $200-$300 for each facial party. If you really push yourself you can do this. Plus if you decide that you don't want to do marykay anymore you can send the unused products back to the company for a refund.

My mom is a Mark Kay rep. It is NOT a pyramid scheme. You just buy the products you want at cost and you profit from what you sell. You can buy a lot to keep in stock once oyou get regular customers and know what they like so they get their stuff fast or you can order for each customer, however the latter is less profitable when you pay shipping each time. It's a great way to make some extra cash. I thought about doing it but I'm just really not a people person. I couldn't walk up to some stranger and ask to do a demo for them. Not for me. But for those that are comfortrable, go for it! A little advice though, once I was shopping and a lady came up to me and said "Wow, you have such a beautiful face and skin. I am a makeup artist and I'm working on my portfolio and would love for you to be in it." She then handed me her Mary Kay business card. I was a little annoyed knowing that she probably feeds that line to everyone. So, my advice it to be sincere and tell people up front that it is Mary Kay.

I love being a Mary Kay Consultant! I'm 22, a mother of one with one on the way, and I work full-time. I work my business part-time and make a pretty good income with it.

You have your periods of ups and downs, but if you stay focused it can be a really great experience for you. Keep in mind that this is a business where you get out what you put into it. Contact me directly at anderson_daryn@yahoo.com and I can give you more insight on what it can be like, the negatives and positives, potential income, etc. I will be happy to answer any questions that you may have honestly, and won't sugar coat anything. Some people have a way of stressing the positives and not focusing on some of the things that we as consultants can face that aren't so great.

I am a young Mary Kay consultant. I love it! The $100 it took to get my business started was worth every penny. I earned that much and more at my first skin care class. Unlike other companies, I do not have quotas to fill. I choose my level of involvement and success. Some weeks I work extra hard and make great money. Some weeks, I only work a few hours and get to spend time with my family.
It's true that women who keep inventory are more successful in Mary Kay because they can immediately service their customers. But, again, you get to choose your level of investment.
My sister, also a consultant, is a kindergarten teacher. She makes great extra income. Every year she has a whole new group of almost 30 potential customers!

I do Mary Kay and I make about a $1,000 extra a month. I've won 3 trips, jewelry, and all kinds of prizes. No, Mary Kay will not work if you don't work it. Avon sells easier because it is cheaper and I know for a fact that the unit leaders do not motivate their reps like Mary Kay does. Plus, Mary Kay has a career car program. Free car, tax, title, insurance,...can you beat that? You get a year to return unopened product if you decide if it's not for you, but within a year, you'll know. I've seen paychecks to directors and consultants for thousands of dollars, it will work if you want to work it like you're supposed to. GL!

I really like Mary Kay makeup, always have. I don't know how much money you can make at it, I guess it depends on how you are at sales. It helps if you have friends, family and co-workers you can sell to. I have not been to a Mary Kay party for years, I wonder if they still have them. Good luck.

It is if you're willing to put in the time. As for the products I like them they have some really nice stuff. I have two friends who sell Mary Kay and they are doing well. Good luck!

I have two girlfriends that sell it. One has put her all into it and the other has really let it fall by the waist side. I really do not like Mary Kay products....I wear MAC make-up which is really nice. If you are really into the artistry of cosmetics......why don't you try working at a make-up counter (MAC) in a department store. People love to come in and get their faces made up all the time.

Don't get tricked into doing this. It is not worth it at all. I'm sure you can find something else to do. try Avon. Mary Kay is not all it craked up to be. they tell you all this stuff up front and make you believe you can make mega money, but the truth is you can't. They want you to stock your shelves from the start. In other words they want you to go in debt. The only way you can make money is to book one party after another one. Sell, sell sell and sell some more. If you are ready to do that then go for it.

As far as makeup goes -- it's pretty good. The skin care line is wonderful, though, and that's why it sells. I signed up to begin a copule months ago, just to make some extra money. I've already stopped doing it. Unless you have the time and a whole lotta effort to put into it, it won't be worth it. Those who are successful in it are happy peppy people who can sell anything to anybody and who are happy all the time and excited about makeup - that's something that I am lacking!! :-)
