Seems like everyone is encouraging me to buy a house instead but you have to realize that the prices for houses in my area are even more ridiculous, not that I've looked myself but I know they are close to a million, if not more. How's a girl supposed to live? I've heard that to get a loan for a house in orange county the banks require that you make at least 120K/year. If I moved about 30mins away it would be significantly cheaper however another thing everyone has to consider is that traffic in CA is horrendus!

My mortgage is right at $700 a month for a 1350 sq. ft. home in Santa Fe, NM. Of course my mortgage is 22 years old! You will find in most places that rent is equal to or greater than the cost of the mortgage. New rentals will be based upon either a single family mortgage amount or on cash flow analysis of income producing properties for multi-unit rentals. Your best bet in finding out rental comps is through local leasing agencies which work on a percentage of rental amounts!

Don't own home. No reason to not own home- almost anyone can get a 1st mortgage for $0 down and the payment ends up same or less then renting. You get more of tax deductions plus you build equity while paying your mortgage versus rent going to nothing and you getting nothing back.

My mom used to rent in CA and she paid $2400 a month which I thought was crazy but like you said $1390 is a hell of a deal. Which is sad. Go to a bank and look at buying. You'll fill alot better paying that amount each month.

I used to pay $510 for a 1 bedroom right by campus in East Lansing, MI. Now I have a roommate and ours is a little over $700 for a 2 bedroom a little further away from campus. I forget the exact amount since I'm subleasing and haven't had to pay rent yet.

i pay 624$ for a one bedroom apartment in an 'okay' area. just accross the street we have homes that are on a small mountain that start from the millions. i want to save for a home one day. wow you pay way too much for an apartment. with what your paying you can pay your payments for a new home in missouri. thats where my family lives on a 5 acre lot. you might be able to own a home here in arizona for that price per month. i think you should move somewhere else.

I have the cheapest apartment in Columbus Ohio for $300. I was sick of renting at $1200.

If you Rent go cheap! because youre just giving your money away.

If you decide to buy outside of orange county, get a scooter to help with gas prices and you'll be able to bypass alot of stagnant main roads.
