They protect your eyes from sweat a other particles. They finish your face as far as appearance goes. they aid in communicating certain emotions and messages. There are alot of things that they do that most of us just do not think about. They are quite important and helpful. Not absolutely essential persay because a person can survive without them, but they are very helpful in a lot of ways.

Well they help you be more expressive, maybe keep wee bits of sweat off your eyes, help some women know when to stop adding eye make up. LOL :)
