I started with a Commadore 64, then got an Apple...then about 12 years ago, switched to Windows n Dell. Now I'm looking to get a new pc. I've got a ton of Photoshop, Flash MX, Video Editing, Front Page, Excel...those type applications...so if I make the change...I'll need to start over. Also, I want a Dual Core, right now AMD offers 2.2ghz X 2, or Intel has a 3.2 X 2...for the price, I'd be looking at an Apple with like 1.6 in my range...your thoughts??

For the media part of your computing, I would go with Apple. Apple is excellent in the photo editing and video editing department. However, I have only seen this done on a PowerPC, and not one of those new iMac or iMac minis. Also, as far as the Intel/AMD situation there, you have to look at something called FSB (Front Side Bus) speed. What you're weighing out here is how fast the data can go in and out of the processor, rather than how fast the processor can manipulate it. I've seen some pretty high end Intel processors run games, encode video and audio, etc. at a significant speed slower than a comparable AMD. My personal experience: Dual processor (NOT dual core) Intel 2.8 Ghz 800 Mhz FSB, 1GB ram, ATI Radeon x1300 was not able to run Half Life 2: Episode One. However, my Media Center PC with an AMD Dual Core 4200+ (2.2 Ghz, 2000 Mhz FSB, same memory and video card) runs it flawlessly. Then again, we could argue semantics all night long. Go to a computer store (not a big chain electronics store) and ask there too. Most people don't charge for advice ;)

Well if you had asked for one that was best in photo, music and video editing I would have said the MAC. But for Front Page, Excel and other "MS Office" products you really need to stick with an IBM clone or Windows PC. Some thoughts to consider is that though the Mac's perform very well for some specific applications, such as editing music, video and photos, the software for them currently still represents only about 10% of the overall market. That means if you want to do something or use something specific, you will have more luck finding it in the PC (Windows) format. Newer PCs with P4 processors are best. Really big Hard Drives are a must. DVD burners allow for bigger backups and storage. An Apple in the 1.6 range vs. a PC in the 3-4 ghz range? I'd stick with the PC, Windows based machine. BTW, I am a retired Computer and Systems Analyst with the NM State Police.

Apple, I work with macs and I like the reliablity better. Also from what the new commercials are saying you can run Windows on the new macs with the intel chips in them, the only thing I have heard was that the mac version programs have not upgraded to be compatible with the intel chips. I have not done my own research yet on this subject but these are things that I have heard.

Apples are a more specialized box. Mostly for folks who do heavy video or graphics editing. Windows is a better choice for the all around user who wants to do a little of it all. Also, you have a bigger selection of software titles with the Windows.

if you are big on photoshop activities, video editing etc, I would go with a MAC, personally I think you should purchase the MacBookPro. I have one and love it. I used to have pc's but I switched to MAC for the job that I have as a software engineer. It will still support excel and frontpage so you should be good with that

Apples are easy and I work with them sometimes. Windows are the dominant force in the market however.
