What's a good place to have a nice dinner?

What would be a good place for dinner with a girl on a first date? Somewhere that's not too expensive for two young adults who have barely begun to earn.

In Singapore, I'd go for the California Pizza Kitchen on Orchard. Not too romantic but not McDonald's either. Good food and light atmosphere makes for a good first date.
