i had been downloading 2-4 mb files and they downloaded so fast like ina matter of 5-30 seconds
but when i tried today i was downloading at a rate of 2.85kb per second and it took about 4-10 minutes to download i dont know why? and how do i get back to my normal speed?

If you have cable, your download speed depends on how many of your neighbors are watching cable TV or using cable internet at the same time. I doubt you have dial-up since you can download so fast, but if you did, I've noticed that wet weather/wet phone lines can slow down the connection as well. Whichever you have, it will probably be back to normal in a day or two.

First you should call your internet provider to make sure they are not having technical problems and your freaking out for no reason. If everything is cool with them, check your own pc. It could be your setup in the control panel or you have too much stuff downloaded already and its bogging your computer down. Make sure other programs arent running in the background too. that will slow u down. You can click start then run and type in regedit to remove all spyware and tidbits of old programs you removed but still have lingering

Try unplugging your modem for at least a minute. Tech support always makes me do this before proceeding to the next possible cause of any problem. This method has proven itself to me a number of times. Once my connection was lagging all day, so I unplugged the modem for a few minutes, then when I plugged it in, my supersonic speed was back.

I do have cable, but I don't see why this method couldn't work for other connection types like DSL and ISDN.

It's all up to your internet provider! You can't theoretically increase the download speed!
