How come you can't hit a child (spanking) but you can kill them (abortion)? If hitting is hitting, why isn't killing killing?

you cannot kill a child, but you can kill a fetus that is not viable outside the womb and this is fallicious logic that makes no sense, if you dont believe in abortion just say it dont hide behind this nonsense

Because there is serious disagreement about what constitutes a 'child'. MANY believe that an 12-gram piece of fetal tissue is NOT a child and that therefore terminating it is not killing a human being at all. Some believe that it becomes a human the moment the egg is fertilized, others believe it becomes a human when it starts to LOOK like a human, still others believe it's not human until it has a beating heart. All these definitions are debateable.

In fact, whether or not it's ok to hit your 3-year old is debateable, so why do you say 'how come you can't hit a child'? LOTS of people hit children every day.

I think spanking is ok as long as it isn't severe. A couple of swats on the but is fine. Many people feel that up to a certain point a fetus is not life. I am a christian and I know what the bible says about it. Abortion is wrong, a baby is a gift from GOD. Now I do struggle with the feeling that if a woman is raped she should be allowed to have an abortion. I would not want my wife carrying anothers man child . Abortion is very tough to discuss.

I have to agree with you on that. You hear women saying that they should have the right to abort but they turn around and say they are against child abuse......such hypocrites.

People keep throwing in that a fetus isnt considered a person. Well lets look at the dictionary definition of a fetus/

Fetus- The unborn child from around eight weeks after conception (when all major organs are formed and it begins to resemble a human being) to the time of birth.

If all major organs are formed then that means they have a beating heart. Isn't making someone's heart stop beating intentionally murder? Women are allowed to have abortions in their second trimester ( 14 weeks - 27 weeks) At 20 weeks she would have known what the sex of the baby is and at 27 weeks the baby Babies eyes could now open, and the baby can turn his/her head.
The baby's skin is very wrinkled right now due to the fact that the skin grows faster that the fat layer underneath it. They won't really even up for a while after birth. The retina at the back of your baby's eyes is beginning to develop. Brain wave recordings show rapid eye movement now. The hair follicles on the skin are just now forming. Blood flows through the umbilical cord and through the baby's body within 30 seconds, traveling at 4 mph. Why isn't it considered murder? I don't get it

Rape is also a poor excuse for an abortion. I have a good reason for saying that. My mom was raped and I was the result of that rape. She loves me no less and I love her no less. I am glad she chose not to murder me for punishment of what a man did to her.

As far as spanking goes it does no good. Parents and teachers spank kids all the time and they go right back to doing it. Spanking only lasts for a few minutes and is over.Taking away priviliges tends to work better because it lasts longer. I have kids and tried spanking and found that it just doesnt work. I take away privileges now and they are well behaved. They make straight A's now and they get citizenship awards every year and awards for being best behaved at school.

Because the difference between what's defined as "life" and "potential life" is a decision made on the basis of religious values, and personal belief. If we allow that to become a legit reason to enact a law, it'd be the same as saying we can kill a woman for showing bare knees in public. Its an exaggeration , yeah, but the principle's the exact same thing.

Because the fetus is not considered a child until it is born. Therefore, since by law it is not considered a child, abortion is not murdering a child.

It gets better: a crack-head mother was prosecuted for child abuse for causing her unborn baby to become addicted. This argues for a fetus to be considered human life...

if i ever do have a kid, i couldnt do abortion, brcause i know that is murder, and that child deserves a chance. but hittng a kid makes a kid think it is ok to hit others. if u keep hitting the kid, he will grow up and be abussive to his wife or kids, which is really bad
