Anyone can gain access to you IP address, but as previously stated, you should be safe. It take a lot of hard work and long hours to get the exact location of a person based on their IP address. It can be done, but it is long and tedious to accomplish. kinda like one of those puzzles where you trace the line from one thing to see where it will end up on the other side, except the line is very thin, there are millions of other lines, and the line if VERY long. Tedious process to get to the origin. I would not worry about it really. You can get security programs that will help prevent people from accessing your computer through your IP address and various ports if you feel unsafe because of it.

IP address? Could your ex really do anything with this info? An IP address is usually just a sequence of numbers that don't mean anything except to those who can read computer forensics. So, unless your ex is a "psychotic" computer nerd, you probably don't have anything to worry about. Only certain websites record IP addresses, such as this one.

Well, it depends on if you are broad band or dial-up.

If you are dialing up, you have a dynamic IP address.

If you are broadband, you have a static one.

In any case, only the places you visit will get the IP address. There is no way to track one down from a home computer unless you visit a website he controls and he knows how to read the logs.

Many corporate company's would have access to this address as would anyone involved in state control such as the police, army special intelligent services such as MI5/MI6, your local council and just about anybody who was prepared to buy it.
