Don`t tell me that it`s because of Maradona`s goal, please... Remember that after that goal there was another one during the same match which is considered the best goal in a World Cup ever.

This statement is a generalisation and should surely read, "Why do SOME English people dislike SOME of the Argentinian people so much?" It is impossible to apply good or bad traits to every single individual in each country- however desirable it might be in time of war.
Speaking of which....
The Falklands? An attempt by a right wing would-be dictator to deflect criticism at home by playing the patriotic card and at the same time providing employment for otherwise unemployed working class boys. Oh yes, Galtieri and Thatcher had much in common and went a long way to prove Dr. Johnson's maxim of Patriotism being "the last refuge of the scoundrel!"

I don't think English people do actually dislike Argentinians. There's always a certain amount of national pride around the World Cup, not helped by the tabloid press in this country. I've worked and work with several Argentinians, and they're lovely guys, no different to working with people from any other country.
As for people here going on about the Falkland Islands, get over it.

I'm English. I like Argentine people and the way they play their football. English people just dislike a handful of their players. Top one being Maradona because of his 'hand of God' goal in 1986. Then there in Simeone for the way he dived when Beckham recated to his foul, or the way he theatrically fell like a shot bullock over David Seaman's hand to earn their penalty. Carlos Roa isn't too popular either for the way he gloated after saving the crucial penalty in 1998.

However, a little parity (and sanity) here. In 2002 on the eve of the World Cup, Channel 4 ran a programme of the top 100 World Cup Moments as voted for by British fans. 3rd was England winning, 2nd was Michael Owen's extraordinary goal against Argentina, but 1st came Maradona's legitimate second goal AGAINST England in the 1986 quarter final.

Bunch of sadists? Nah, just recognisers of genius!

The English DONT hate the Argentinians...however, the Falklands War, despite being a complete waste of time and money, allowed us to gloat and flex their muscles against a weaker aggressor.. Also, despite Maradonna's second goal against us in 1986 being brilliant, the first was the work of a evil cheating little junkie and we have never forgotten or forgiven it.

Also, we regard their players' hairstyles as laughable!

I don't hate Argentinians - a football game between our two countries is always built up in the tabloid press becuase of past events on and off the pitch - it is always a game I look forward to.

I have been in Buenos Aires twice for work and found Argentinians to be really nice, caring, fun-loving people, who like the English love their football. A great place to party!

I am sure most English do not hate your country - most of the lip given is just friendly banter.

For quite a few reasons: the Falklands, Maradonna's Hand of God and Simeone getting Beckham sent off in 1998.

we don't dislike them. we just don't like the way they cheat at football (yes that goal), the way they gloated over England's players after Simeone's dramatic reaction to beckham's ankle tap in France 98. Plus, it wasn't the best world cup goal ever, that officially goes to Carlos Alberta for his goal in the 1970 world cup.

It is because the Argentinians invaded the Falklands Islands and started a war against us.

The English don't like to see their boys die on the battlefield or be burned alive on ships.
