I dont understand, in the World cup, can you play for a country if you have spent most of your life there? But were born in another country? Or do you have to play for the country you were born in?

For example, a man is born in Australia but moves away to England when he is 5 years old. He starts playing soccer there, and then at age 22 is good enough for the world cup. Can he play for England? or does he have to play for Australia?

actually, any player can play for any team, most of the time, Players play for their birth countries, but there are also who plays for the country they spent most of their life in. To make matters worse, there are even players that has no connection to a country watsoever, but they still play for them because of financial matters or others. Furthurmore, there are players, who were born in Brazil, probabaly lived there too, but are not good enough for the national team, in that case, he will try out for a less-experienced team, usually ones that are close to brazil(as an example) so he would not be considered a "traitor".
Bottom line, u can play for whoever you wnat, as long as ur skills and ur dignity are there.

There used to be a Rule that you had to be born in the country to play for them but it's changed as there are many Players that have Naturalized citizenship making them able to play for that country now. Usually Players that cannot make the cut with their National teams.........

You can play for the country of citizenship or birth. There are also rules that allow you to play for the country where your parents/grandparents were born.

Once you play for a country, you are no longer eligible to play for another country.

He can play for either country of his choice. The key rule is that once he plays on a national team, that's the only country he can play for. As long as he hasn't played for Australia's team, he can play for England or vice verso.

To play for a country you have to be a citizen of that country. This does not mean you have to have been born there.
