I bet people will start going to the movies more when they come out with the new "Blue laser" DVD's, because noone will be able to play the old CD's on the new DVD player. And the new cd's won't play on the old DVD player.

r Actually I doubt it. At least not the movies as we now know them. I think between the constant advances being made in the television, and home media systems, movie theaters as you know them will soon be obsolete. They have already changed greatly from when I was a boy
What I do think, however is that a there still will be specialty entertainment centers not to unlike, simply more advanced, than what Disney's has to offer in New York City.
Just as an example of what I mean is,..imagine your seated in a theater that when the lights go down your surrounded on all sides in the movie. Not only is it three D without the glasses but the characters, full sized, surround you.
Movies would be made on two totally different planes or versions one for home viewing and one for spectacular viewing.
What do you think?

With broadband, I download and rent mine online now. I don't even settle for online rentals where the video is mailed to you. I think the Internet is killing this industry (in that respect). I see this industry dying out, but I don't see it happening very quickly. I would guess in 100 years, movie theaters will be a thing of the past. Imax type theaters may have a longer future.

I go to the movies pretty regularly. It is expensive, but I always enjoy grabbing a few friends and watching a flick at the movies and grabbing some snacks. The price is outrageous, but it's worth it for a great night out with my friends. :]

Back in the day when there were no VCR and DVD discs. Soda and popcorn was a buck and the movie house was 2$ to get in no mater how long you were there.
So no, I don't think that will ever happen again.

I'm guessing not. WIth all this free downloading and DVD burning on the net and such, people won't spend the $$ to go to the movies, or better yet, spend $$ to even buy the DVD's. People are just renting them and burning them. Then they are selling the copies :O

No, it's too bad though. Movies are my passion, too bad they charge an arm and a leg for it. I just wait for it to come out on DVD then take advantage of unlimited rentals from Blockbuster Online :)
