Asus or Abit, The specific motherboard will depend on what CPU you choose to use Intel vs. AMD. There is a ton of options and decisions you need to make and be sure to set a realistic budget. I have built computers for nearly 20 years and the most important thing is to buy BRAND NAME PRODUCTS...do not use no-name generic CR@P!!

I prefer AMD processors but both build great products: Definately go with a PCI-Express based motherboard so you can purchase a smoking hot video card. If this is your first computer stay away from SLI boards because you will not have the knowledge to remedy issues that you will encounter (nothing personal). If you want to use a quality sound card stay with Creative, they are the industry standard. Try to go with 1 gig of memory from the start and make sure that you match your processor BUS speed with your memory clock speed (ideally) AND don't forget that some motheboards use Dual Channel Memory Technology so you will need to have 2 sticks of identical memory to obtain this benefit.

All the rest is up to you and what you like....Neon fans, Cathode Lights etc.

500 Watt Antec Power Supply...never use any other power supply. You can step down to 400 Watts if price is an issue but try not to go with any other brand....You definately get what you pay for..granted they are alot more but it is for a reason. If the supply says 500 Watts you are going to get it...a generic power supply has no assurance of its specs

You do have a lot of decisions to make. I always ask people,"What are you going to use the computer for?". That can help you make some basic decisions that will determine what processor you'll buy and what motherboard will suit your needs. If your doing a lot of word processing and spread sheets, go for an Intel processor. If your a "Gamer" an AMD processor is the best bet. Then you'll look at mobos, "How much memory will it hold?", "AGP?" , "PCI-e?" Then you move on to video cards, "Are you a gamer?" then you'll want a 256MB or more of video memory on the video card and a lot of RAM. These are just some of the decisions that you'll need to make while building a computer. And questions that will determine what type of mobo you will need for your build.
