if so why and what does it achieve

It appears that life is worth living if you are surrounded by people you like, work you like and an environment you like. It seems useless when all or any of these is missing. But the key point is that it perhaps does not matter if 'you' think life is worth living or not. You are alive as long as it fits into God's overall scheme of things!!

Sorry for the cold tone of the answer, but this is a question I have asked myself manytimes and was surprised to see someone else also with the same question!!

Excellent question, but no single answer that works for everyone.

I thought about this a lot during a period of depression in my life, and I came to the conclusion that I don't know what life achieves, but life DOES matter.

Sorry, because I know some people are offended by religion, but this is my personal answer: religion. (I am not trying to preach, just answer the question.)
My religion is Judaism.

God gave us the Torah, which tells us how to live our lives in detail. If our lives didn't matter, then why would He CARE how we live our lives? His having given us the Torah is an indication to me that our lives really do matter and are worth living, even if we don't know why or what it achieves.

It's up to you. Don't wait for something to fall in your lap and instantly fix everything though-nothing will do this, not even religion. Happiness and self worth is something you choose.
No matter what position you are in you have the ability to make someone else feel like they're worth something though--a long time ago I thought "my life sucks, but maybe I can keep someone else from feeling this sad" and tried to be happy and giving for the sake of other people--whose lives still mattered to them. I surprised myself by discovering this made me happy, and was also surprised to find I could be of value to others. Try to find someway to help someone-and you'll find worth.
And what does life achieve? Joy

it doesn't "achieve" anything. the moment that u think we need to have a purpose to be here, life becomes a neverending and hopeless striving towards finding out the why of being here. You will find yourself near the end of your life no closer to the answer. there is something that makes life worth living for all of us. Some are just so intent on finding what COULD make them happy that it passes them by.

yes life is worth living,

There are lots of things to see and do, people to meet.

There are no particular achievements associated with life (unless you count not-dying) But most people will have achieved many things through their lives. Probably nothing of cosmic importance but important to those people you have known along the way.

i wouldnt say it "worth" living i just see it as i have nothing else to do right now so im going to play this game called ''life'' and see where it takes me. i figure why not go on with my life as far as i can and just do the most with it that i can.

It depends on your view of life. Do you think that when we die, thats it, theres nothing else? Or do you think there is a heaven and a hell? And everyone will end up in one of these places? The only way to Heaven is throught Christ. Not by works.

Hell ya it's worth it, you never know what life will bring tomorrow and so it's the excitement of wondering what tomorrow will bring that makes it all worth while. that and kids are great too.

yes, it is worth it......life achieves more, much more if you make something happen, interact with others, find a hobby, make friends, attend a worship service, do something for somebody else, think of others needs first before you think of your own needs..............
