Spent a month there. Spent time in the north. It's great!!! When I was told there was going to be a pub on every corner I thought it was a joke, but it's really true!!!!
I also spent a week on the Isle of Harris and Lewis.Way up north! Beautiful beaches with great big Jelly fish. To cold to go swimming of course. The Isle of Harris is where Harris Tweed comes from!!! There aren't many people, but tons and tons of sheep.
Take the haunted city tour in Edinburgh!! It's scary but you get scotch at the end. The Royal mile is very touristy--don't waist your time going in every shop. But there is a small Mom and Pop jewlery shop on the Royal Mile that is worht stopping at!
Make sure you bring a camera with tons and tons of film!! I had mine out all the time!!!

god scotland is gorgeous. the mountains are dam brill. theres loads to see and do at least spend a week here. be sure to visit loch ness lake. its wonderful on sunset or sun rise. like many other lochs there. theres dear parks and lots of walks. the towns are nice lots of things that you can pick up as souveniers. and take a drive through the highlands. and take a good camera with you. so you dont miss a thing. night life is good and active in the right places but i think the locals are better to ask about that. and yes it is cold there. so make sure you take some warm stuff. youll love it.

Scotland is a relatively small country. you can drive all around it in two days, but doesn't leave anytime for site seeing. Would assume that you will be spending at least a week so suggest you get a travel guide guide and pick out the places you want to see and plan your trip around that. There is plenty of nightlife in the major cities but out in the country all you will find are traditional pubs.

edinburgh is a very beautiful and very ancient city. glasgow is not beautiful - but it is exciting.

away from the two big cities scotland is more peaceful and unspoiled than most places in europe (except perhaps western ireland).

if you want nightlife glasgow is the best, edinburgh a reasonable second - but there are really no other options.

you should probably decide whether you want to see mainly the cities with their excitement and their history, or the countryside with its beauty and its calm. then you should concentrate on the interest you have chosen (but leave a little time to see the other side of scotland).

for myself i like edinburgh best. but then i already know one celtic country well - since i am welsh.
