All Mexicans are Hispanic, but all Hispanics are not Mexicans. Hispanic refers to the culture of the Caribbean and Central and South American culture. The name derives from the Island of Hispaniola, which was discovered and claimed in the name of Spain

No! They are Not!

Mexicans are from Mexico. Mexican-Americans are American (born and raised) who's ancestors are from Mexico.
Hispanic is a term that refers to any non-white people who's culture has been integrated with Spanish, because the Spanish attempted to colonize their lands. Usually they are mixed.

Spanish (from Spain) are white. Hispanics have indigenous ancestry; either black or native american, south american indian, etc... Mexicans, Cubans, Panamanians, Dominicans, Brazilians, Peruvians...are referred to as Hispanic. We don't really like it.

And, "Spanish" is not a polite way of saying "Mexican". The implication would be that "Mexican" is a slur.

Yes and no. Mexicans are Hispanic, but not all Hispanic people are Mexican. For instance: Spanish, Cuban, and Puerto Ricans are also Hispanic people; but they are not Mexicans.

Hispanics are of Spanish origin and could come from any Spanish speaking country. Mexicans are different from Spaniards because of mating with the Indians creating a whole new race. That's why they look different then their Spanish ancestors.

Mexican refers to someone from Mexico. Hispanic refers to anyone from a Spanish-speaking country (e.g. Cuba, Puerto Rico, any Latn American country, etc.). This is not to be confused with Spanish, who are actually from Spain.

"Hispanic" is a blanket generic term for anyone from a Spanish-speaking country. Please note that "Hispanic" denotes a language group and not a culture, and the term originated in the US. "Mexican" means originating from the country of Mexico specifically.

Hispanic is a general term regarding race.
Mexican is more of a regional term regarding nationality, along with Columbian, Venezuelan, Chilean, etc. Get it?
