Simple answer is Prohibition. To explain a little more it is because hops, one of the main flavoring elements in beer is only used for one thing, and that is beer. During Prohibition hops were not readily available since they were only used for making beer. Beer was still brewed during Prohibition, it was just lightly hopped or not hopped at all. Since that was all there was to drink was "wee" then that is what America drank. After Prohibition was abolished people were used to drinking "wee" and that is what the factories produced.
Another reason for bad American beers is because they try to sell a cheap product so instead of using all malted barley they use adjuncts like corn and rice to cheapen the cost, and thus the lack of flavor.

YOU tell me as I've never tasted watered-down wee yet nor do I intend to. Perhaps what you mean though is the taste of beer with low alchohol content which indeed taste like watered-down malt juice. Those beer makers have to do that for marketing purposes and make you buy more beer to get some fix. Strong beer would make a lot of drinkers loose their driving licences, you don't like that to happen, do you?

If by wee you mean urine then I wonder why and how much watered down wee you drink.
There are more than 2000 breweries in the US. When you tasted them all did you have a glass of watered down wee next to you for comparison, I mean that's a lot of urine or did you go from memory?

Because 64% of americans don't drink to enjoy a drink. They drink to get drunk, and quality is not an issue. They simply need the fix.

Dam I dunno what watered down wee tastes like. I prefer german brews like hefeweizen to american beer, Or a light pilsner. All the dark bitter brew should be left in the coffeepot.
