because, after spending their lives in rural places, they want to see what else is out there besides small town life. also, most of the better colleges seem to be in or around cities.

to experience what other places have to offer, to not feel so confined, to discover that they are more than they think they are and most of all to get away from their parents and the small town gossip links!

Because they are smart and understand the value of experiencing both country and citylife (which are completely separate cultures)...I should know because I'm one of them myself.

they are looking for more opportunity than their town might provide, sometimes it's their ticket out.
