My sister-in-law is convinced that you don't ovulate when taking birth control. Do you ovulate when taking birth control and if you do, what cycle day does it happen?

Thanks, I'm ttc, but it was really her question.

And if not, how or why do you still get your period?

In some cases you can still ovulate while taking birth control pills. In these cases the pills cause the uterine lining to remain very very thin and unable to support pregnancy. So should an egg be fertilized it will be unable to attach itself to the uterine wall and the women will not become pregnant. In most cases, however, you do not ovulate while on the pill.

If you are taking your birth controls correctly, you do not ovulate. Birth control pills prevent ovulation.

Birth control stops ovulation, which is how it prevents you from getting pregnant.

you don't ovulate while on birth control pills - they are a hormone that basically convinces your ovaries you are pregnant, preventing release of an egg.

i believe you still ovulate, but birth control hinders the egg from entering the fallopian tube (or something like that) so you can't get pregnant. at least i think that's how it is for me (i'm on the shot). that's my understanding. doesn't mean it's accurate, though:-)

if you are on the birth control and are taking it right, you should NOT ovulate.

The period is your uterus sheading it's lining and cleaning it's self. so it's normal to get it while on BC!!

hope i helped!

no you should not ovulate because the hormones "trick" your body into thinking it is already pregnant so you don't need to get pregnant
