It all depends on the point of view of the persons involved. If the prosecutor is a pro-lifer, the criminal will get charged no matter what term the embryo is in. However, most people use the time an abortion can no longer be performed as to whether or not a pregnancy is considered a double homicide. I tend to go along with that since it seems logical. If the woman could not longer have it removed from her body, it is assumed she not only wanted it, but was looking forward to it. As for when it is considered life, as soon as it is conceived it is some form of life. However, when it has rational thoughts is a different matter. The fact that it is forming, doesn't make it human life. It is when it can be taken from the womb and not look like a fish and still survive that matters. At least that is my point of view. You will get MANY different ones with this question. It is a good one!! Good luck!!

The main question in abortion is not when life begins because it does begin at conception (cells are considered alive because they fit all necessary requirements for life). The main question is whether a fetus is human or not. Until the brain develops it probably does not know it is alive (I personally don't remember if I knew or not or cared or not if I was alive at the time). If it doesn't know it probably doesn't lose anything in abortion but when does it start knowing and caring if it lives or not. I would believe the fetus cares before it is born because as soon as it is born it cries for assistance from the mother in remaining alive (through feeding and protection and so on).

There is also the question if caring makes a difference, for example cows and tuna and other animals we eat all try to stay alive despite the fact they are not the brightest creatures God or evolution (whichever you believe) put on this earth. But we don't as a a society see it as mattering as much as us being able to eat.

I personally believe though that the fetus is alive and human at conception and so abortion is wrong in my belief system.
