I dont know if its "ideal" but sure is helpful. me and my boss talk about our problems or issues with our spouses and sometimes we find ways to make things work or fix this or that. I help him to understand more about his wife and he helps me to understand more about my husband's behavior. sometimes it's good to have this kind of conversations with someone that has a serious relationship just like you. I wouldnt take advice from someone who wasnt married or living with the bf/gf.

If you're spouse is open enough to accept advice about your prior relationships, go for it.

If not, pretend you're talking about a friend and their situation.

Personally, I'm open & encourage advice form the past. I don't want to make the same mistakes if I can avoid it.

Good Luck!

Of course real life experiences are the ideal advice. Its the way you put it so as not to give away others secrets thats important. I suspect you got blasted!!

Where else are you going to be able to get an informed opinion from? There are certainly not books that cover every possible situation with every type of personality encompassed in it.

Yes, but in a tasteful way. Sometimes if you really want something changed you gotta go that way. But dont be like,"Oh, me & Jessica did it this way and i looooved it!"
