Especially for public toilets? I mean squat toilets have no butt contact whereas seated toilets have full butt contact.

Squat toilets are more hygienic because of the lack of skin contact.

However, some squat toilets I've used in Asia looked pretty scary, as if nobody could aim correctly....... That isn't hygienic.

To me it's a matter of ease of use. Have you ever tried to balance and hold you purse, pants/dress and packages and not let anything touch the floor - not easy. Men have it easier because they don't sit as often as women do.

Also, all the squat toilets I used you had to "flush" by pouring water from a dipper into the bowl and there was water all over everywhere and I don't consider that very hygenic with the spashing and all.

Thanks for asking this question! I'm wondering about this also. I can never understand or figure out how a person can squat on a sit type WC. So that being said, I've never squatted on a sit type toilet, but I'm guessing some of my friends do. I've never asked them this question before though... hehe...

yes definitely. The sitting ones - you don't know who sat on it before you. Very gross
