Cuz they are drugs that do absolutely nothing for you. Politicians drink and smoke cigs. If they didn't they would be banned. I agree that pot should be legal, it has known medical benefits. But everything in moderation.

Because the government can't make any money off the Pot Smokers. They Tax The Crap out of Smokers And Drinkers!!!!!!!! It's All Money Sweetie!! And The Little They Allow For Medical Use The Government can't Tax That to much because the Insurance Companies Pay for it. If They raise the prices to much, you can just go on the street and get it cheaper. That's Why!!!! I have never heard of a overdose from pot alone, have you?But Look what they say alcohol and cigarettes do to you? but are 100% Legal!!

Marijuana is more harmful to your lungs. "As compared with smoking tobacco, smoking marijuana was associated with a nearly fivefold greater increment in the blood carboxyhemoglobin level, an approximately threefold increase in the amount of tar inhaled, and retention in the respiratory tract of one third more inhaled tar. Significant differences were also noted in the dynamics of smoking marijuana and tobacco, among them an approximately two-thirds larger puff volume, a one-third greater depth of inhalation, and a fourfold longer breath-holding time with marijuana than with tobacco."
Furthermore, studies have shown that marijuana is a "gateway drug" and can entice the user to try other drugs. Alcohol has its own problems, but very few people who drink heavily are likely to try other drugs as a result of their drinking. They're just too drunk, I guess....

it is about money. they can't control cannabis because it is a plant and if it were legal anyone could grow it. private prisons are filled with cannabis offenders. it is a great excuse to jail all the black and mexican people. pharmaceutical companies would lose lots of money because it could be used for medical reasons as well. there are so many reasons it should be legal it is outrageous... but it is still illegal for political reasons, not rational ones. until we get people in office that care more about the will of the people than their corporate sponsors... it will remain illegal.

Essentially it comes down to lobbying. The alcohol and tobacco lobbies do not want to compete with marijuana because they would lose business.

its illegal because its harmful. simple as that. tobacco and alcohol are legal because they result in big profits. they're too big of a business to get shut down. if they were made illegal, a lot of people would go bankrupt.

Well, if you look at American history, alcohol was illegal.
And do you know what happened?
Crime sky-rocketed!
Marijuana should be legalized.
It should be regulated just as cigarettes and alcohol.
It should be taxed as well.
Other drugs?
Nope - just weed - it isn't some blend of crazy chemicals...it's just an herb, damnit!
