I read somewhere I believe that you shouldnt go past 42 weeks, because the placenta can stop working... does anyone know how many weeks you can go or any websites I can read?

They suggest that you do not go over 42 weeks yes. However in some cases you do just because their weeks are off. Or because there is a health reason (sometimes they want the baby to stay in longer if there is a development problem etc)
I believe the placenta stop working is less of a concern than the baby running out of fluid. Or other complications.
And besides who wants to be pregnant more than the nine months???
I will try to find some web sites with more information. Also talk to your doctor!!!

After 42 weeks doctors will induce labour as a matter of course. Baby simply cant get what it needs in the womb after that. Your placenta will have been used up and the baby needs to be delivered

I don't know if the placenta can stop working, but going any farther wont be benificial to a natural child birth and definetly not benificial to a newborn, if there is no room or water in the sack that would not be good! the doctor should no when the time is right if there is worry find another doctor befor that time comes!
Your doctor should no how much fluid is surrounding the fetus and if you need to go farther maby it is because the baby isn't ready.....Lungs, Heart, Ear, finger..........you can go two weeks past your due date and be ok..........not all due dates are exact.......

Usually after 42 weeks the placenta is not as effective at doing its job and the risk to the baby increases. Many doctors are willing to induce by 39 weeks if you have not delivered yet. Just talk to your doctor about his/her practices when it comes to induction or waiting.

I've heard that 42 weeks is the limit, too. Because if you go longer, the risk of the baby aspirating meconium is higher, and that can be very harmful to the baby. Usually they induce if you go a certain length past your due date. I have heard of some women being 3 weeks overdue, but usually 2 is the limit. My baby wasn't overdue, but labor was induced, and everything went fine for me and her.

My first son went one day past his due date and I demanded to be induced. He was 8lbs 11ozs and 25 inches long. GEEZ! Same thing with my second kid. They were normal uncomplicated births. I wouldn't go past 41 weeks myself. Too much just goes wrong. Follow your instincts.

42 weeks, anything past that and they'll induce.

I would go by what your doctor tells you. BUT, if you feel uncomfortable with that, go to a second doctor for an opinion. Good luck. Please don't go by what you find online.
