Do you do something nice for the family of a soldier deployed overseas? Or, as the family of a soldier, what would you like friends and neighbors to help you with while your loved one is overseas?

I take my neighbor out to dinner now and then. Her husband is in Iraq and she has no family in the area! I also help her with yardwork!

It depends on the situation, sometimes families with small children appreciate the extra's that they sometimes cannot do as they are really single parents at this point and time. And if it is parents or brothers and sisters of soldiers sometimes collecting supplies for the troops is a much better thought.

when my husband was deployed we didnt ever ask much from anyone. Our FRG (family readyness group) was there to help me out through the deployment. We would do fund raisers to have parties when the guys got back and things like that. If you want to send stuff to the guys over there they would really appriciate it. You can to to hotels and see if they can donate anything like shampoo and things like that for the guys or girls that are stationed over there. You can also go to walmart and buy the travel size deoderants and things like that. There are a bunch of orginizations that accept donations. You can call any military post to find out where to send stuff too. We are on Ft. Riley, our web site is www.riley.army.mill. Try contacting the family readyness groups they will tell you who to call.

Having the experience right now with my loved one over seas, I would really like the support from my family. I wish they would help me deal with the thought of losing him. My family just sits back and calls him names.
