You are apart from your neighbors by thin walls. You cannot enter their apartment without going outside, so it is seperate. The had to call it something, and apartment was unique enough.

LOL that is funny...never thought of it that way.
My question is why do they call it a condo when you own it? It's just an apartment that you own....but somehow condo makes it less like an apartment. ??

it's actually called apartments because its one building shared by more than one household, and is derived from the Italian word appartare, which means "to separate". so it all makes sense since one building is separated into many households.
