I visited your country in 2003. They managed to strike a balance between modernity and Islam, an impossible equation elsewhere.

I've lived in Malaysia since 2000.

They claim to not discriminate among their races (Malay, Indian, Chinese), but I've yet to see that. Everywhere I look I see the people being discriminated because they aren't a "certain" race. I'l be as bold as to say that Chinese people think they rule the economy of Malaysia (what do you expect from them, afterall they are like leeches who live in every corner of the world). I bet that if you were to get stranded in darkest Africa and there's bound to be a Chinese person there already who thinks he's the king of the world. Most of them can barely speak proper English but would try to insult Malays and Indians that live here. Trying to have a conversation with them can take a while as they take a loooong time to process what they wish to say. Afterall, most of them have to traslate it from Chinese right? Unlike them, the Malays and Indians here are more friendly. Chinese people would associate with you only coz there's something to gain from you and when they get it, believe me, they won't be around for long.

That said, I do have Chinese friends here who are extremely good, but then again most people won't be as lucky as me to meet people like that.

I haven't, but bits of Malaysia have visited Scotland - mostly engineering students that I knew. This particular crowd were fairly hard working and pretty good fun in the main; most were bright (though there was this one dork....).

Yes I've been to Penning, I stopped in the Rasa Siang Hotel and had a magnificent time I would love t do it again, the place is awesome and the people are wonderful.
Addition My son was in Bali 2 months before the bombing and he loved the place, he said it is popular with the Aussies whom in my experience are great to team up with and have a good time.
