Playing chess is similar to deciding what is best move to do. Either it be right or wrong in decisions, you or others may suffer the consequences. So it is indeed necessary to make thorough consideration of the matter especially if it is quite critical.
The following question from the Rotarians will help you determine the correct course of action:
1. Is it the truth?
2. Is it fair to all concerned?
3. Will it build goodwell and better friendship (of the parties involved)?
4. Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
Honestly, most people do not think much before they do anything. They just act according to guts and feelings. Getting the proper perspective on deciding right from wrong, there should be checklist to follow like the Rotarians do.
Anything positive. Anything upbuilding. Let it all exude from all of us.

I ask myself, "What would Mary Richards do?"
For you kids in the audience, Mary Richards was a character played by Mary Tyler Moore on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show," which ran from 1970 to 1977.

On two things : Past experience and logic.
If you have done it in the past you know whether others liked you more when you done it or liked you less.
And logic makes you know that certain things are right or wrong. Eg we all know it is wrong to hit someone for no reason at all.

I like to use the "Harm Principle." If my actions may insult someone but it is not harmful to them, then I will follow through with my actions. A great book on morality is by Joel Feinburg (sp?) it is called Offense to Others.

On your moral ethics, your values,or even from past experiences maybe. And if you don't have any, then by observing others right or wrong behavior. That's what makes you determine and be aware or know what's right or wrong.

I guess part of it comes from the way I was brought up. As you grow up you learn what is right and wrong and your instincts let you know also.

Past experiences. Pretty much, if it doesn't harm anyone it is OK.
Certainly not the bible, though, except for the golden rule. Far too much incest and death in the bible, especially the old testament.

The moral absolute (moral law) is based on the metaphysical absolute (what is real). Know what is real and you will know what is right.
