Which language proves to be more useful if I plan to work in Europe? Spanish, or German? (next to French)?

I'd vote Spanish, because I think German speakers are more likely to know English or Spanish than Spanish speakers are to know English or German.

I live in Switzerland and hear more Spanish than High (standard) German.
