IF you are referring to family as in scientific classification (Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, Species) then Opossum belong to the family Didelphidae and Raccoons belong to the family Procyonidae.

Raccoons, skunks, and ferrets all share a 'Superfamily' (Musteloidea) but have their own "sub"-families. Raccoons belong in the family 'Procyonidae'; this includes Raccoon species, Coatimundi species, Kinkajous, and a few other less well known species. Skunks are in the Mephitis family, which contains skunks and two species of badger. Ferrets are in the Mustelinae family, which includes wolverines, weasels, ferrets and martins. So really, a ferret is about as closely related to a skunk as it is to a raccoon.

American Opossums are in the family didelphidae, which is the order marsupialia - in other words, they are related to koalas and kangaroos... they have the pouch for their young... Raccoons are in a totally different order - Carnivora... They have their own family - Procyonidae... if you are looking for a relationship between the two, they are both in the class Mammalia!
I have to add, that rodents are their own order - Rodentia - and again, their relationship is that they are Mammals!
