Yes silence is golden sometimes because sometimes it is better to keep quiet if what you will say will hurt the other person or make the situation worse. You should not always be honest and always say what you are thinking - sometimes you must control yourself and be quiet.

Believe it or not, everything is relative. Silence can be golden because it suggests that you are listening, and sometimes that's enough. Certain situations require silence, anything you say will be misconstrued and will only aggravate whatever situation you are in (like if your girlfriend/wife is mad at you).
At times, however, you need to speak up.
So you can't take things in a vacuum, as a wise man once told me, "no virtue can stand alone". It depends entirely on the situation.

Let's see what Frankie has to say. . .

Silence Is Golden

by Frankie Valli of the Four Seasons. A band of the 1960's

Oh don't it hurt deep inside
To see someone do something to her
Oh don't it pain to see someone cry
How especially if that someone is her

Silence is golden, but my eyes still see
Silence is golden, golden, but my eyes still see

Talking is cheap people follow like sheep
Even though there is no where to go
How could she tell he decieved her so well
Pity she'll be the last one to know

How many times will she fall for his lines
Should I tell her or should I be cool
And if I tried I know she'd say I lied
Mind your business don't hurt her you fool

Silence is golden, but my eyes still see
Silence is golden, golden, but my eyes still see

Silence is good in definite cases only.,as at work, hospitals,if your neighbor is not in the mood,i.e if it,s speaking is harmful to some one .But,generally ,I read a proverb that the very silent man deserves to be killed.I think it,s a metaphor that a silent man is not donating any thing for society even some words,so he does,nt deserve to live.
