Its funny that people who say they believe in God and don't believe in the Devil. How is that possible? Does the Christian religion not acknowledge the devil or hell? Of course they do, thats why people ask for forgiveness and try to be good people so they don't go to hell. Yes we worship God, not the devil, but how can they deny his existence if they believe in God or the bible? Every beginning has an end, every positive has a negative, every up has a down, you have to have balance in the world. Like 'soulsearcher' said above, they go together, you can't believe in one without believing in the other. That out of the way, I don't think atheists believe that God ever existed, much less abandoned them. I have not studied the atheist religion so I cannot give an honest or exact answer, nor could anyone else who has not studied the religion, good question for atheists and Christians shouldn't try to answer, they can only speculate about another belief that is not their own.
Good question.

An athiest cannot believe God has abandoned them because as an athiest you do not believe in God, hence no-one actually there to abandon you.
I don't believe in a force of evil, I think it's not a helpful concept - it's an excuse - it wasn't me, the devil made me do it. I can't speak for a group as a whole but as an athiest I don't believe in evil, I believe in people behaving in an evil fashion, which of course I disdain. You do not need to believe in God to have a sense of wrong and right. A sense of good and a sense of evil do not come from outside you, from God or the Devil. The deeds you do are not caused by God or the Devil - it is your choice, your innate sense that causes you to behave in a 'good' or in an 'evil' way.
I really don't understand what you mean by evil being progressively mainstream - it makes no sense to me. I think there is an increase in people who are refuting the concept of organised religion but this is not evil. I actually tend to think it is a good thing, as it breaks down another 'them and us' barrier and allows people to interact as people, rather than reacting against other groups.

You've made 3 different questions. You should have separate them.
By definition, atheits don't believe in god, any god.
If somebody thinks that God had abandoned him,
he believe that God exists, and so, is not an atheist.
You presume that evil is an existing entity, and that
God is good and the exact contrary. Atheist don't
accept that.
And if somebody don't believe in God, don't believe in devil.
One thing is the evil as a human attribute, and
another is believe in the reality of the Devil

I can't speak for everyone, but this atheist simply doesn't believe in things that can not be substantiated with any evidence other than faith. believing in "evil" and the devil is quite the same as believing in a god. I don't claim to be athiest to make a statement or proove a point i just know that religion as i know it fails to answer my questions, and science, while not complete, does a much finer job.
the world is full of diff. beliefs, that is one of the most beautiful things about it, what works for me may not work for you, and vice versa.... but we can all mutually respect one another's decisions and beliefs.
It has nothing to do with "disdain" or hatred for your godd. and of course i dislike "evil" in fact, many of t the people i know who live the most "christian" lives... (doing to others as they would have done to them etc.) happen to be athiest or something like it... there is a lot more reward in life to living happy and treating people well. if there is a heaven, perhaps it is right here and now, and it is simply a refection of how good your life goes when you handle it well and make responsible and intelligent de cisions...
that's my 2 cents.

first of all, an atheist does not believe in anything spiritual, not God, not the Devil. they do not believe God abandoned them because they don't believe in God. An agnostic is someone who believes in the 'unmoved mover'. that is that God got everything started and could care less what happens. And by the way, Cantrelle, Jews don't believe in the Devil, yet we believe in God. So why don't you shut you ignorant mouth.

No. Some people really don't NEED to believe in anything.
Have you noticed, in the whole world, xtians are no better off than Atheists? A cruel person can win the lottery as much as a good person. Thousands of xtians die happily or traumatically, as do Atheists or anyone else for that matter. I wonder why...

I am not atheist. Atheists don't believe in any god for any reason. I am agnostic. Meaning, if you can show me some proof of a god, I'll believe it. There is no proof of either god or the devil so neither agnostics or atheists believe it.
