No what bothers me is the misconception people have about it and the stupid groups like the KKK who use it for evil. I don't hate anyone. My stepfather is a black man. I am white. Like the other folks have said it is a symbol of heritage. Civil War History is a big part of some peoples lives. Civil War Reenactments are a hobby of mine. I know black guys who sport the flag down south. In short I don't believe you should hate the flag you should hate the stupid people who misuse the flag. Like Jenn

No it does not bother me because it's a part of history and a part of history that I had nothing to do with.

From what I've been told, I lost a number of relatives during the Civil war, several of whom died in Andersonville... if anyone should hate the Confederate flag it should be me... but that would deny understanding the history of that terrible event to me, so I would be the loser by hating a mere flag, even though was an icon of that conflict.

People who don't know history are doomed to repeat it and judging the past by the present value system does a disservice to the people who were a part of that past or the historical events of that past.

Hundreds of Thousands of people died during the civil war... on both sides of the Mason-Dixon line... both Black and White... Ignoring the symbols of that war is a disservice to all who died, were maimed for life or displaced from their old lives because of a war over STATES RIGHTS... (contrary to popular belief, it was not a war over SLAVERY... because that is a recent concept in the past 40 years or so developed by the people who re-write history to make it more palatable or more to the way they wish it was).

The Stars and Bars was just a flag... not a reliqious symbol. As a flag it had the same reason to exist... it served as a rallying point for the soldiers during a battle... and that, historically, is the ONLY reason for a Country's flag... it's only in America that the 'Flag' has been raised to the level of a religious Icon... but that is the American Flag... the Stars and Bars was never considered as a religious icon.... it was merely a flag.

To paraphrase Freud... sometimes a Flag... is just a Flag.! and it isn't the FLAG that deserves hatred or disrespect, but the history and injustice behind it.

Most people hate it -that do not understand what it stood for. It stood for 'con'-federate, not slavery as you were taught. There were slave states in the north. That was war-time propaganda designed to separate the people-it worked. Most all Americans today are confederate-just pay attention to how "YOU" act towards the government. The war between the States was fought to preserve the union, not to free slaves-the northern slaves were not freed until nearly a year after the war was over. Check it out-slavery had already been outlawed. There was a 'grandfather' clause in effect, but the final date for slavery was set. When the South withdrew from the union-they kept as part of their constitution the law abolishing slavery. Its all recorded history -go read it. Until you do-just think of all the hatred that has been spawned by what you were taught. It plagued the people of the South for many years- but for the last 50 years it had also plagued the rest of the States. Think about it.

Folks have a misconception about the civil war....Slavery was NOT the issue.
The issue was States Right's slavery just happened to be one of the rights the states were deciding for or against. It could have been anything...hell...today it could be gay marriage, abortion, or haw many Katrian victims to house..... The Conferate Flag nevr has nor ever will be anything other than the symbol of the fight for States Rights..... If others choose to use it for evil then they will answer to their god or goddess. Just like anyother symbol...it can be preverted

Yes it does because people use it to show off. My boyfriend just recently got a tattoo on the center of his back of the rebel flag an I hate it. People should leave it in the past so it doesn't bring up more controversy.

The confederate flag rocks and you suck! The flag doesn't mean anything besides south....it's just a flag for another country....which in every country they have their own beliefs!
Take for instance the swastika.....before hitler used it, it was a sign for the Indians....but of course we all relate it to the bad...it's just a symbol.

Yes it does, it is a sign of ignorance, some claim it is a sign of rebellion but I think that it is just a symbol of oppression.

it's a symbol of heritage...brother against brother....and a very real piece of our not too distant past....as long as it's not carried out in a racist manner, it's okay with me...
