you probably just need new brake pads. they usually squeak when the rubber pad between the pedal and the braking mechanism has worn down. it's really common, but the sound is a warning that you should get these replaced soon. I need them too, but $480 seems pretty high. Call a Nissan Dealership and ask the parts dept. how much it would be for purchasing a set of brake pads. then subtract that from what they are estimating to fix it and you'll see what they are charging for labor. It might be better for you to just buy the pads for your car and take it somewhere else to have them put on.

Squeeky brakes usually means it's time to replace them, but if it's not doing it all the time, you may just have a caliper sticking. If you've ever replaced your brakes, how many miles since you installed your brakes? Check with Auto Zone. They will give you some good advice. The cost of brakes is nearly nothing. If you let your brakes wear too much, you'll have to replace your rotors, which IS expensive. Also, dealers are more expensive than most places, so call around to auto repair shops and ask them what brakes would cost, and ask them if you can buy the parts and bring them in. This will probably save you a lot.

your brakes are squeeking cause you brake pads have a metal thing in them to warn you that your pads a getting low, and will soon need to be replaced. brakes are not hard to do at all. if you know anyone who could do brakes, let them do it, just buy the parts. then your looking at less then $100 for all 4 wheels. if not that go to midas or some store like that. $480 is just the dealership screwing you.

well my car needed new brakes and it did not make a squeky noise at all. but it keep failing state inspection. So i think 480 is good for brakes front and back cuz the car place was trying to charge me 430 for just the back... Be care you don't want to keep driving the car with bad brakes because you may damage your drums and have to get that replaced too

Take it to a brake place like Midas or whatever. $480 is way too high, should be $125 or less.
If the rubber pad between the pedal and braking mechanism has worn down, what are you driving, a bicycle? Certainly not a petroleum powered vehicle.

$480.00 is way too excessive, I am DIY person, I usually dish out about 65.00 to change my front brakes.
In your situation there are a couple of things, do you really need to change all four brakes. I really don't think so. Most of the time, it only takes the front brakes to replace and iam talking about PADS ONLY.
Best advice to you, shop around, make a few calls its not going to hurt, It will hurt your wallet if you don't.
